Why did you choose your degree course?
I'd always been interested in biology at school and could see the increasing importance of microbiology in society and the economy.

What prompted your decision to work in industry?
I liked the fact that you can do research and see the products being developed from an idea to reality. You can also see the difference it makes when a product of yours is used everyday e.g. in hospital labs. It is very satisfying to do research and make products that can speed up the diagnosis and treatment of illness, hence reducing the 'suffering' time.

Why did you choose Oxoid?
Oxoid is a large, respected company with a worldwide presence. I initially started as a temp in the QC lab, and enjoyed being with the company because they made me feel part of a large family.

What aspect of your work gives you the most job satisfaction?
I have been involved in high profile projects and been able to publish papers and to manage parts of a larger project. Being a scientist is very much about team work at Oxoid and I enjoy coming to work and spending time with my colleagues.

What are your plans for the future?
I have recently been supervising new starters on our project in R&D. In the next few years I hope to lead larger teams on projects developing new products. It will be good to see these products make a significant difference to our customers and to the company.
